Making the weather sound as scary as possible

We had the infamous ‘polar vortex’ a couple of years ago.  Now the weather service, or the MSM has decided to go all Sharknado with a weather event and dub it the ‘bomb cyclone’.

I’m pretty sure a ‘bomb cyclone’ used to be called a Nor’easter in the winter and a hurricane in the summer.

If you do a quick search, there’s all kinds of stories that give a backdrop for the new and improved branding of what we call ‘winter storms’.

Honestly, are these people just sitting around toking it up and making up stuff?

“Dude,’ nor’easter’ is sooooo yesterday.  We need a scarier term.”

… two bong hits later….

“How about ‘bomb cyclone’?  It’ll look good for the made-for-TV movies later.”

Good grief.

  1. There is a weather phenomenon here in New England with Nor' Easters called “Bombo Genesis.” Sometimes, as the storm heads out to sea south of Long Island, it explodes like a hurricane in the warm waters of The Gulf of Mexico. You know its happening when the radar shows lots of lightning over the ocean and you are experiencing “Thunder Snow” with blizzard conditions inland. That and the TV weather babes keep saying “BOMBO GENESIS!!!”

  3. Glypto–I read about it, but never heard it on the news for the whole time I was living in the Northeast. I walked home in more than one thunder-snowstorm though and it was pretty cool.NFO–Of course. That's why they created the new scary name.
