Pray I don't alter it further

A friend of mine just got a nasty-gram from their employer demanding their proof of being boosted for Fauxi Flu since it’s the newest in a growing list of ‘you have to have these shots and provide us this information to keep your job’.

It seems to me that many employers–Carhartt, any of the Ivy League Schools (or higher ed in general) have really gone the CDC and Fauci route by constantly changing the goalposts for their employees.  In that vein, they are also trampling on their right to medical privacy (which really was a thing just two years ago).

In the previous decades, it was pretty much verboten for employers to ask medical questions of their employees.  A lot of this came out of the HIV/AIDS years when HIPPAA was put into place.  And it used to be if conditions of employment changed, then generally it was for new employees–present employees were grandfathered in and so were exempt.

The camel’s nose under the tent started with ‘wellness programs’.  If you got your blood drawn and did some other stuff that was then reported to your employer then you’d get a reduction in your health insurance payments (side note, I just pay the extra).

And now comes the Wuflu.  And employers are making it a brand new condition of employment that many have to get these still-EUA shots and boosters in order to remain employed.  Further, you have to provide proof to them that you did it.  And they can force you to use an app to log your physical status every morning.  And HIPPAA doesn’t count because the person is ‘voluntarily’ providing this information (at the point of a gun with their livelihood at stake).   And they are ‘voluntarily’ getting the shots because they don’t want to lose the jobs they’ve been in for years or decades.

So pretty much we’re moving back to the bad old days where employers can set whatever new rules into place and force compliance and interfere with their employees’ personal medical decisions.  Conditions of employment are mutable.  And yes, people can go elsewhere, but what if all or most employers are following this model?

So seriously, what’s next?  Providing a complete blood panel?  Maintaining a certain BMI (because it’s been proven that people who are in shape don’t use insurance as much as overweight folks)? Implementing new requirements at will just to keep your employees from getting through the goalposts?

All of these were unthinkable a few years ago.  Now, all bets are off.

ETA:  In South Carolina they are addressing the above in the legislature.  A bill has been proposed to make it illegal to ask for anyone’s covid vaxx status.  As State Rep Burns indicates:
“They cannot ask you if you are pregnant or intend to get pregnant, or HIV status. But they won’t to fire you when you disclose that you’re not taking the vaccine?” he added. “Who thinks all this is a great idea?”
Burns earlier told Fox News that insurance companies were planning on charging higher premiums for ‘unvaccinated’ people.
“They’re charging up to an extra $100 a week more than the vaccinated people,” he said. “It is absolutely insane to do this kind of thing.”

Hope it catches on in other places!
