Economic blackout day?!? Really??

There’s a thing going around about businesses closing down today (Friday, February 28) and people are being encouraged to not spend any money either in person or online.

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) — Customers across the United States are looking to send a message Friday to companies that have rolled back their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the form of a 24-hour consumer boycott, also known as the “Feb. 28 Economic Blackout.”

Virally led in a post by a group called The People’s Union USA, one Instagram user under the name “theonecalledjai,” who is actually known as John Schwarz, announced his organization’s goal to encourage consumers to roll back their purchasing power to major companies.Oscars 2025: Where to watch the Best Picture nominees

According to the organization, its goal is to combat corporate greed and the increasing prices of goods across the United States.

The Economic Blackout is also in response to President Donald Trump’s elimination of federal DEI programs, with other widely known corporations following behind.

Problem is that it’s being taken to the next illogical level, as most things tend to do. So some small businesses are also going to be closed. Which is just plain counterproductive.

And who does it hurt? Not the folks on the upper levels of any corporation. It’s the front line folks, the clerks, etc. And it’s pretty stupid because stuff is still going to be delivered and life will go on and those big corporations won’t even notice.

  1. I have a sudden urge to double up on any shopping I need to do today!

  2. Wow, my first response is to go buy something too.

That’s fine however, free speech and free association. I completely stopped shopping at Dick’ sporting goods due to their stance on 2A, as is my right. If they want to stop shopping due to DEI dying, that’s their right too.

But yeah, a 1-day stoppage? No one will notice. To create a true Bud Light moment, you have to completely go scorched earth and 100% boycott.

But that’s fine. Free association. I completely stopped shopping at Dick’s based on their poor decisions about 2A. If they want to boycott due to DEI dying, fine.

  5. Like most Leftist and women’s movements, it will fail because it will be mostly symbolic and have no substance. And no staying power.

Like Don said, no one will notice.
    Or care.

  6. I believe there was a fellow… some may know him… Radio show host by the name of Rush Hudson Limbaugh, he would refer to such silliness as “Symbolism Over Substance”.

A bunch of crap if you ask me.

For myself it will be “Business as Usual”.

  8. I used to shake my head picking up a prescription at Walgreens, because the employees wore brown t-shirts with Diversity Equity Inclusion plastered across the front with a rainbow.

They’re back to professional uniforms now. Much better.

    1. Quit shopping or buying products from businesses that support DEI. It’s the only way to get the message across.

  11. Kinda like the thing a few years back ‘Don’t buy gas today’, ignoring the fact that you would need MORE tomorrow……….

  12. I seriously doubt enough people buy into the DEI BS to make a notice difference to most retailers.

Don–Exactly. Like anyone other than GenZ liberals are going to do it anyway. It’s just dumb. Sorry about your login problems!

    B–Indeed.

boneman–It was definitely status quo for me as well. If I needed it, I bought it.

wv citybilly–That’s one reason I went to CVS…

WDS–I didn’t notice that parking lots or drive through lines were any shorter.

    Peaowed–Yep, shopped online too!

Gasman–That’s why Target was having to change its ways.
