There’s a thing going around about businesses closing down today (Friday, February 28) and people are being encouraged to not spend any money either in person or online.
ST. LOUIS (KTVI) — Customers across the United States are looking to send a message Friday to companies that have rolled back their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the form of a 24-hour consumer boycott, also known as the “Feb. 28 Economic Blackout.”
Virally led in a post by a group called The People’s Union USA, one Instagram user under the name “theonecalledjai,” who is actually known as John Schwarz, announced his organization’s goal to encourage consumers to roll back their purchasing power to major companies.Oscars 2025: Where to watch the Best Picture nominees
According to the organization, its goal is to combat corporate greed and the increasing prices of goods across the United States.
The Economic Blackout is also in response to President Donald Trump’s elimination of federal DEI programs, with other widely known corporations following behind.
Problem is that it’s being taken to the next illogical level, as most things tend to do. So some small businesses are also going to be closed. Which is just plain counterproductive.
And who does it hurt? Not the folks on the upper levels of any corporation. It’s the front line folks, the clerks, etc. And it’s pretty stupid because stuff is still going to be delivered and life will go on and those big corporations won’t even notice.
