That's going to be one big hole

Remember as a kid, digging holes to China in the yard?

Apparently China has decided to dig their way to North America (or at least part way there).

They have plans to dig a 33,000 foot hole into the ground.  That’s over six miles.

I don’t think this is going to end well.

  1. From 1965 to 1995 the Russians operated a borehole facility on the Kola peninsula. By the time they finally quit they had reached a depth of over 40,000 feet below the surface. They learned a fair amount about earth's deep geology, spent a lot of money but got little else for the effort. Makes one wonder what the Chinese think they will accomplish
