Mayor Pete seems to have only two things that qualified him to be a Cabinet level Secretary: 1) he was seen as a threat to Biden during the primaries and needed to be bought off with something big so he’d drop out; 2) he’s gay. I’m not seeing any leaning towards any kind of competence or understanding of the problems that he has exacerbated.
A few weeks ago, he (in)famously said in regards to re-opening the Keystone Pipeline would be a “galloping after permanent solutions to immediate short term problems.” Like creating a permanent solution to any problem is a bad thing (pretty sure dude flunked logic).
So what does Congress want to do about the growing pain at the pump? They want to send out more checks to people for gas. Through the IRS. Which is still backlogged by MILLIONS of tax returns because of handling stimulus checks (the former is their job, the latter, not so much).
I know that they are now used to just printing money, but with US and Canadian oil just sitting there–a long term solution is pretty available, pretty quickly.
What we don’t need are more checks and more debt. We need a permanent solution to a long term problem. It’s pretty easy–go back to Trump-era rules and have our country become energy independent again.
