When you lose the consent of the governed

That’s what’s happening in Illinois right now.  JB Pritzker is hopefully figuring out that Executive Orders don’t mean diddly squat if people ignore them.

The Illinois Department of Health tried to renew a rule regarding school mask mandate but the Illinois Legislature gave a big ol’ ‘no’ to that.  Why?  Because the rule is unenforceable.

Pritzker insists that his executive order is still in place, however school districts sued and won to have it struck down in regards to forced masking.  And the appeals court struck down his objections–effectively ending state-mandated masking.

Downstate schools are pretty much ending mandatory face diapers and some suburban Chicago schools are joining in.  500 out of 852 districts were ignoring the executive order and IDH rules anyway even before the lawsuit.

What Jabba forgets is that an executive order is only as good as the paper it is written on.  Executive orders require rules or guidance from the executive branch (state departments, etc).

If those rules are struck down, as in this case, then the executive order doesn’t mean anything.  As is right and proper in a system of checks and balances.

Pritzker may have done a lot of good things, budget-wise in Illinois.  Doesn’t really matter.  He is a petty tyrant and a hypocrite.

  2. Matthew–I should have said budget-wise only in that he was better than Rauner who was a complete train wreck. The last good governor in Illinois was Edgar. Quinn. Blago. Ryan. Two of the last four were incarcerated.
