As B mentioned yesterday, we traveled over 1500 miles in the last few days. As part of those travels, he treated me to a dream weekend (my fairy tale weekend) at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC.
As part of the stay, we got to tour Biltmore House and see some areas that are not open to the general public. We also went on a Rooftop tour to see the whole thing from the roof (per the name of the tour). The fact that the house itself was built in six years, had both DC and AC electric (at that point they weren’t sure if Edison or Tesla was going to win the War of the Currents), AND hot and cold running water (along with ensuite bathrooms for guests) makes it a marvel of the Gilded Age.
B and I enjoyed the details that exist in such a massive structure as well as the professionalism and enthusiasm of every staff member with whom we spoke. We found out as much about the house itself chatting with a security guard as we did on the tour.
Additionally, we crossed paths with the same folks over the course of the weekend, which made it very fun. Nothing like getting on a trolley and getting a big ‘HEY’ (like walking into Cheers) with several folks that we’d chatted with earlier!
The vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains (Smoky Mountains on the TN side) is always stunning and we did roam downtown Asheville for a while, checking out different shops and restaurants.
Here’s some photos:

I am truly still overwhelmed. Going there and staying where we did and seeing it has long been a dream of mine. My thanks to B for a lovely time.
