If you had told those soldiers that they weren’t fighting to ‘preserve the Union’, but instead to ‘free the slaves’, many, perhaps most, of them would have thrown down their rifles and gone home.

It always amazes me when I see that someone still believes the history they were taught in the Democrat run schools. I expect you also believe that the slaves really loved it and the southern states left because of states rights.
The truth is slaver was bad. The southern states in their declarations of secession all listed slavery as a reason. Surviving documents show that most union soldiers fought to end slavery.
My relatives joined the United States Army as soon as they could. They had to do so under assumed names to avoid the rest of the family being killed by the secessionist. I am from Tennessee and proud that my relatives fought against slavery and for the union.

Rich–Not sure about that part, but possibly, since he was in bed with Big Pharma. The whole demonization of already-existing drugs that worked so they could implement the EUA for the shots was a big thing.

John–Gotta split some hairs here. Slavery was bad and folks knew it, but there was a lot more going on with the South. It was the producer of goods at that time and had close ties with France. The whole ‘preserving the Union’ thing was propaganda. Truth is that Lincoln broke the Constitution by bringing back those states by force. Chicken thief’s comment below yours is spot-on.

John, check our own state’s declaration of secession. No mention of slavery.
No, I don’t think they were happily singing in the fields. My own father (White), was a sharecropper’s son in east Texas, and he picked cotton as a boy. He told me how hard that was.
You do remember that there were two referenda on TN leaving the Union, right? The first was overwhelmingly to stay in the Union. After Lincoln’s (spit) call for troops to force states to remain, Tennesseans voted to secede, rather than to force sovereign states to remain in an association they didn’t want to be in.
I’m proud that my ancestors (none of whom, as far as I have discovered, ever owned a slave) fought for independence, even if the bad guys won in the end.
They didn’t want to submit to Mafia rules: ‘You can leave, but we’ll have to kill you’.
I did serve in the Yankee military. It was the only game in town, if you wanted military training.LikeLike
