Sometimes voting works

Down in Alabama, the sheriff of Lee County chose not to participate in the federal 287g program (which is voluntary) to help catch illegals.

One of his deputies was not happy with that decision and decided to run against the guy who’d been sheriff for 28 years.

Cam Hunt launched his campaign against Jones because he was frustrated that the sheriff’s office was not participating in the 287(g) which is a voluntary program that allows sheriff’s offices to aid in immigration enforcement by holding illegal aliens for ICE and CBP.

The sheriff canned him for his audacity.

But the deputy won the election and is now sheriff. It was pretty close, but, as the saying goes, there’s a new sheriff in town.

I make it a point to vote against incumbents, especially judicial ones, unless there is evidence that they are actually doing their jobs in a manner in which I agree.

Absolutely! There needs to be an effort to reinstate the TEMPORARY nature of public service.

  2. What’s curious to me is why co-operating with a FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY… is “Voluntary”.

Good deal on the new Sheriff.

I’m waxing a tad dubious over our Sheriff here in… wait for it…

    LEE COUNTY FL. 😉

  3. Awfully petty to fire someone for running against you (if that was really the case). Wonder if the new sheriff will let the old sheriff stay on as deputy for a week or two, and then fire him. Payback is a b****.
