If you ask the search AI, it’ll say it’s to bring a lighthearted vibe to protests. I don’t think that’s the case though.
Even locally there were a fair number of inflatable dinosaurs, lobsters, and unicorns mingling with the crowd. Apparently frogs are a thing too, possibly showing that the left is trying very hard to meme by copying Pepe the Frog.
There were also people with fake beards and other coverings that I think were clearly worn to keep them from being easily identified.
IMO, the costumes are being used in a couple of ways–they prevent identification and they protect the wearers from pepper spray or other crowd control devices.
They also have a psychological factor (mainly for women) because what’s worse, some guy in a man bun getting pepper sprayed or a poor helpless unicorn (anthropomorphizing is a totally woman thing)?
For me, it squicks me out as much as any furry convention and I also think that it’s a dodge to keep from getting arrested.
Thoughts?
