What’s up with the costumes at protests now?

If you ask the search AI, it’ll say it’s to bring a lighthearted vibe to protests. I don’t think that’s the case though.

Even locally there were a fair number of inflatable dinosaurs, lobsters, and unicorns mingling with the crowd. Apparently frogs are a thing too, possibly showing that the left is trying very hard to meme by copying Pepe the Frog.

There were also people with fake beards and other coverings that I think were clearly worn to keep them from being easily identified.

IMO, the costumes are being used in a couple of ways–they prevent identification and they protect the wearers from pepper spray or other crowd control devices.

They also have a psychological factor (mainly for women) because what’s worse, some guy in a man bun getting pepper sprayed or a poor helpless unicorn (anthropomorphizing is a totally woman thing)?

For me, it squicks me out as much as any furry convention and I also think that it’s a dodge to keep from getting arrested.

Thoughts?

  1. Everything about the Democrats is a freakshow

  2. I think it’s all of the above. It helps prevent ID, reduces likelihood of arrest (what cop would want to have video of him taking down a lobster or dinosaur?), ditto on the pepper spray and it lets the furries fly their freak flags (not that they need a reason for that).

As far as the search Ai response, it was probably programmed by a group that included furries, so no surprise there.

    Silliest–Yeah, definitely multi-purpose.

Stefan v and Cederq–I edited your comments, both of you. Stefan, you were way out of bounds–not here. Cederq, not so much but still on the edge.

  6. Reminds me of the inflatable rats that striking union members have been setting up for years at picket lines to advertise their displeasure. And leftists like to play dress-up (pussy hats, anyone?) Just another drag show that no one of any consequence takes seriously.

  7. Maybe the No Kings thing isn’t as mainstream and popular as they make out. Eaton Rapids Joe has two posts up where he estimates the numbers in attendance :

I know from working with a professional photographer (many years ago in my youth) that a good camera angle and directing the “crowd” can make 25 or 30 people look like a massive amount of people. The mainstream media do this all the time.

  9. Phil B–Between overestimating the numbers, as ERJ pointed out (matched my own observation) and the press putting out pictures from 2017, they are really trying to make this look mainstream when it’s only a bunch of hippie wanna-be’s and Soros employees.

    TRoy–True that!
