This headline reminded me of something…

Kudos points if you can name the movie without following the link….

The true headline:

In Early October, Earth Will Pass Through the Orbital Debris Stream of an Extremely Large Comet That Was Just Discovered

The movie:

As the Earth crosses the tail of a rogue comet, Rhea-M…

  1. I recognized the plot, but couldn’t remember the movie. I’d forgotten that it was based on a short story written by Stephen King and that he also directed it. I think it’s fitting that he is quoted in the wiki as “describing it as a “moron movie”, given the source of its inspiration…

  4. The first thing I thought of when I saw this earlier was Night of the Comet too.

  6. Silliest–But the soundtrack was awesome. All AC/DC. Maximum Overdrive.

Jason–That would fit too. I should have left in the part about machines coming to life and killing people.

    futuristically–That would fit as well!!

Veeshir–To be sure, it’s easy to forget. It just happens to be one of my guilty pleasure movies.

    Nemo–Maximum Overdrive starring Emilio Estevez.

  11. Lifeforce was an insane movie. I remember catching it on TV very late one night on one of the premium channels. I remember the space vampire chick being naked (and doing fill frontal) throughout the movie. There were so many cast and crew nvolved in making it that the credits listed 2-3 names per line under each heading, and the credit roll still took a few minutes. When I woke the next morning after about 4-5 hours sleep, I was left to wonder if I’d dreamt the whole movie, it was so weird and disjointed it almost didn’t seem real.

I clearly remember Maximum Overdrive, another strange flick and staple of WGN and WTBS late night/weekend movies. That semi cab with the green goblin on the front was oddly disturbing to me as a kid. And that short chick, who if I recall correctly, played the girlfriend of Emilio Estevez in the movie, was really annoying to me. She was one of those actors who were cast all over the place for a hot minute back in the mid 80’s, and then just disappeared.

  12. 3-D–One of the best lines ever.

wv–Forgot about Lifeforce too. That movie was as surreal as Repo Man (another Estevez movie).

BRD–Lifeforce was one of those movies best watched in an altered state. It was popular because of full frontal naked space vampire chick. I think you’re thinking of Yeardley Smith in Maximum Overdrive (agree that she was very annoying)–she ended up doing the voice of Lisa Simpson later.
