Ring Camera Defaults

So I’ve been trying to figure out why my new Ring cameras weren’t picking up things they were supposed to. Like cars. And people.

Someone dropped some stuff off this weekend and my cameras didn’t ping.

Apparently the new defaults have Smart Notifications turned on. Which, unless you mess with those specific settings, make sure that you miss most things. So I’ve turned them off and hopefully everything will work properly.

As a note, the only reason I have them is because a delivery person supposedly dropped a TV off at my garage (the picture showed my garage but not the item in question) instead of at the proper address and so I had a drunken low-life at my door at 8:00 at night accusing me of stealing her television. I assured her that I had my own TV and did not need hers and that if it had been left, I would have brought it to her. When the bitch went to the office, they assured her of the same thing.

Long story short, I figured cameras were my best option to avoid such issues in the future, but only if they are working as they should.

    I have to tweak my Ring settings every now and then to keep them correct.

    This is funny and sad ring cameras frequency attracts certain types of bugs and animals, birds, bugs etc in fact they can interfere with your auto on security lights. The weird thing on there feed they will delete you every time

    I have several outdoor cameras (none that are Ring) and the IR lights are constantly attracting bugs. Motion sensing is near useless on two that are constantly active. The others that I have that only activate on motion are a bit less sensitive, but I still get a lot of activations with no sign of a reason.

    Same here, my ring camera would either pick up nothing, or activate constantly due to traffic, bugs, people walking down the sidewalk, etc. No amount of adjustment would get it to where it would only activate when people came up to my door. I finally had to turn off notifications and then later just get rid of it. I’m looking into other options, but now I’m right back to just peeking out the window whenever the doorbell goes off. It also never activated and connected to my phone fast enough to actually talk to the person at the door like in the commercials. I’d get the notification about 2 minutes after the doorbell rang and the person would already be walking away. So yeah, not a good experience with their service.

    Matthew–It would be helpful if they told us what they are changing.

    Nancysjet–I don’t have lights, but with my previous cameras I would get notifications if a spider web blew in front of one of them.

    Silliest–Must be ghosts…. 😉

    Don–I get a bit of a delay as well, usually 5 seconds or so. Which is surprisingly long because I person can drop a package and be off the porch in that time.

    I have little problems with bugs, except when spiders spin a thread that blows in the wind.
    Notifications were turned off on day one
    I don’t want to talk to anyone at my door
