School owned devices=school surveillance devices

You’d think the folks would have learned from what happened in Pennsylvania back in the day. You might recall that case where a school district gave all of the students Macbooks and then took over 56,000 pictures of the students in their bedrooms.

In Tennessee a student made a joke on her school surveillance device and it got flagged by the Gaggle AI.

A 13-year-old 8th grader from Fairview Middle School in Tennessee was arrested and ultimately sentenced to eight weeks of house arrest, a psychological evaluation, and 20 days at an alternative school — all because her school’s AI program flagged a conversation she had with her friends on their school-issued devices.

Oh, but it’s worse. Because school personnel, being the pussies they are, instead of calling the girl’s parents and having a conversation did this instead:

immediately alerted police, who promptly arrested the bewildered girl, drove her to the police station, strip searched her, forced her to shower on camera, coerced her into signing documents she didn’t understand without a lawyer, and threw her into solitary confinement for 24 hours.

Her parents didn’t even know where she was, and when they finally found out what happened, they were not allowed any contact until after the solitary confinement was completed.

According to the AP, the Gaggle AI is WRONG 70% of the time when it flags something.

We’re constantly reminded that AI has to be double checked. School staff lack the discernment, common sense, and critical thinking skills to do so.

Parents need to keep their students away from these school-given devices for the safety of their children.

    I would consider that the acts would be Kidnapping (and Abuse of a Minor Child) at the least.

    And if the authorities didn’t take action, my family would…..

    Either way those folks wouldn’t ever do that again.

    B- Kidnapping is exactly what it is. If someone removes a minor from the temporary custody and care of a school without the parents’ knowledge- that IS kidnapping. It has no bearing on the situation whether it was an individual person, or an agent of the state. The foolishness and lack of goodwill on the part of our public school administrators and staff is pathetic to the point of being intentionally negligent. Criminally negligent. Will anyone be held responsible? Not unless it happens outside the framework of the law.

    Gaggle AI? More like Cluster F AI. The words “laziness” and “scum” do not begin to describe the behavior of the “adults” involved in this incident. When public school administrators view children as mini-adults, they start with a warped image of reality. What is it about school staff that make them want to be self- important control freaks? Unfortunately, it seems that the things that they are most concerned with controlling are free speech and critical thinking.

    You are blaming the tool rather than the workman here. The problem is the general attitude of most public schools that their students are their property and that they have authority rather than parents. Schools that properly understand their role would not clandestinely put surveillance tools on the student computers in the first place, at least without parental approval, and certainly wouldn’t assume the kind of behind-the-parent’s-back authority that this school did.

    Properly used, school computers can be a tremendous force multiplier for good teachers. Instances of that are too rare, and I have only ever seen it personally in private schools.

    Let’s put the blame where it belongs–on the administrators and faculty of that school who usurped parental authority in every way. That, and not the technology that is used, is the greatest justification for keeping your kids out of schools, public or private, unless you know full well that they agree with your values and accept their lesser role in the lives of your children.

    First and foremost, these are government monopoly day prisons, not schools. Why any parent willingly hands their precious child over to these monsters every morning is beyond me. Have there NOT been enough stoies of shootings, drugs, violence, sexual abuse, grade inflation, transgender indoctrination, etc???

    That shower video could easily be part of some pervert LEO’s collection now. Back when I worked in corrections a female employee was grabbed as a hostage by an inmate trying to force his way out. She received bruises in various areas that were photographed by police investigators. The Lt running the shift I was on later said that pictures of her chest were floating around in the hands of the guys running the prison.

    B–Absolutely agree. It’s kidnapping, plain and clear as well as possible child porn. I hope they get their asses handed to them.

    Nemo–Yes. Absolutely.

    TRoy–School personnel need to be held personally accountable for their stupid. And those that didn’t intervene properly–putting the human factor into play, should lose their jobs.

    van–Absolutely agree. It’s the personnel that are the problem.

    MrLiberty–Government education….

    Frank–And it would be the dissemination of child porn.

    There will be one HELL of a comeuppance. Or should be. Sadly, it will be monetary vs the folks being responsible going to jail. And once again, sadly, it will be the TAXPAYER that will be on the hook and probably to the tune of MILLIONS (that’ what I would be suing for).

    Utterly beyond comprehension… and yes, the “Administration” of this school should be tarred, feathered and ridden out of town on a rail. We need to bring that process back. NOW. When that was a real and present possibility in the minds of those “in charge” they did not overstep their authority.

    I have little to add other than agreement that several people need to be charged with making and possessing child porn. Losing their jobs and being forced to register as sex offenders should only be the beginning. Clearly a case of the process is the punishment. They were able to do all of that to her without her being convicted of anything. Innocent until proven guilty indeed.
