Apparently the liberal side of the interwebz are losing their collective minds over the new American Eagle jeans advertisement with Sydney Sweeney doing a pretty good takeoff on a 1980s Brooke Shields (main difference is Sweeney is an adult–over 21, Shields was 16).
The same libs that Karen-splain racism to people of color have a problem with a beautiful young woman talking about her ‘good jeans’.
Lizzo (of all people) jumped into the fray and got her very substantial ass handed back to her.
As Rich Cromwell said over at the Federalist (ht to Mike at Cold Fury)
But the brief stranglehold the inmates held over businesses gave them a false sense of security, of permanence. They thought they’d won the war, whereas we can now see that they only won a few victories and that those victories were not exactly strategic ones. Jaguar copied nothing, and now its sales are, not to put too fine a point on it, in the toilet. To be fair, a large part of that is that the company also stopped making cars, an act that is pretty integral to selling cars. If demand were there, though, Jaguar would be rolling at least something off its assembly lines.
The simple fact, in my opinion, is that the blue haired, middle aged liberals and their ilk are jealous. They can’t stand anything beautiful and therefore it must be ‘othered’ or destroyed. But as Cromwell points out, that time is over. Beauty is something to be embraced and applauded. Kudos to Sweeney (who I’ve never heard of before this) and American Eagle for holding the line.
All I know is that I’m now thinking about buying American Eagle jeans.
