Bird Flu being blamed for government action

Millions of chickens have been killed in the past few months. Shortages of chicken and eggs is so bad that Waffle House is putting a $0.50 surcharge per egg on their meals.

Bird flu is being blamed for the mass killings (although not by the Waffle House folks). However, this strikes me as being similar to actions taken by the government during covid. Covid was blamed for lockdowns, for forced shots, for isolation. But it was really government overreaction to covid.

I can’t be convinced that killing 100s of millions of chickens is needed or necessary. There’s been one guy that was purported to die from bird flu (or did he just have it along with something else–does that sound familiar as well?).

Government overreaction on the avian level. Brought to you by Biden’s USDA.

    1. Steve–I checked and this is not true. There is some question as to whether or not she was ‘escorted’ off premises when she was fired on 1-27-25. That said, I think bird flu is a crock and that the guy in Louisiana died WITH it, not OF it.

    1. Steve–I’ve been caught by more than one. Not a problem at all!

  2. before we kill all the chickens, I want to know – how are we going to kill every wild bird in the USA? Pointless to kill all the chickens otherwise, ain’t it?

Are the farmers being compensated for this horrendous waste? If not, we’d hear a lot of complaining from them, wouldn’t we?

Wouldn’t it be better to wait for the chickens to get sick, then breed the survivors – especially since the bird flu is not much harming humans yet? I’d even be willing to let the farmers sell the eggs, as long as people are warned.

We should never again let bureaucrats destroy parts of the economy.

  4. I live in N. Ft. Myers Florida. We have what’s called the SW Florida Eagle Camera here and it’s been a long tradition of viewing starting out w the original pair of birds called “Ozzie and Harriet”…

SADLY, and I’m VERY surprised this story did not go viral and national, the latest pair of birds (I think Harriet may still be the original Lady Bird) LOST their two recently hatched eaglets and it was determined by FWC that they did succumb to H1N1 Avian Influenza.

So all those exterminated chickens may have died for naught.

I know… a bit of a reach but I’ve seen a lot of memes about howcome only the chickens are affected.

Now.. that said, the way chickens are factory farmed, an Avian Flu outbreak in a facility like that? Utter devastation I suppose.

The Eagles in this particular Aerie very often hang out in the pine trees in my yard. I and the entire community here are VERY fond of them.

  5. I am still trying to figure out how chickens isolated on one farm can infect chickens on isolated on another farm.

Are the claiming polar mosquitoes or long distance flying house sparrows are the vectors?

It would seem prudent to see if more cases showed up in the flock. We all know how good those flu tests are.
