Anybody else remember the term ‘wilding’? That’s what they called the mass of child-thugs who came forth on warm summer nights to destroy whatever was in their path. Somehow it morphed to ‘mob action’. But even that wasn’t mild or word-crafted enough for the Mayor of Chicago. (via B)
In this case, from his speech, I honestly can’t tell if it’s because he doesn’t understand the term (“I mean, to refer to children as like baby Al Capones is not appropriate.”) or because he doesn’t want the 400 people looting and vandalizing, the thugs he refers to as ‘children’, as a mob.
Further, he says: “We have to be careful when we use language to describe certain behavior.” He seems to think that the word ‘gathering’ is the right word. I think referring to the mob action as a riot and the ‘children’ as thugs would be more accurate.

For more morphing, let’s take a look at Matthew McConaughey, who is an actor angling to be a politician. He wants to refer to ‘gun control’ as ‘gun responsibility’. His stated reason is to dodge around the 2nd Amendment (great going for someone who wants to be in office, right?)
“There is a difference between control and responsibility,” he wrote. “The first is a mandate that can infringe on our right; the second is a duty that will preserve it. There is no constitutional barrier to gun responsibility.”
The red flag system McConaughey recommended included a background check, along with a waiting period to allow law enforcement or family members to file petitions that would block someone’s ability to purchase a gun for a certain period of time. He also said there should be a waiting period because people sometimes purchase guns in a fit of rage and use them to harm others.
Sounds like gun control to me. I also think that responsible gun owners would definitely take umbrage at the fact that, by proxy, they are being marginalized as ‘not responsible’.
