In the never-ending co-option of the English language, a man who says he’s a woman and can no longer use his masculine musculature to beat women in the sport of biking, says: “No one should be denied the opportunity to chase the same joy that I and others have found through racing,”
Please bear in mind, that he and everyone else can still race, just in the male/open category. The only joy that is being denied is trouncing women by racing in their category.
It’s the same as the (mostly) trans people who keep saying that books that are being taken out of school libraries due to age and subject matter inappropriateness are being ‘banned’. These books are not being banned. They are available on Amazon, at Target, or via other booksellers, they just are not being stocked in grade and middle school libraries. Parents and kids can buy them all they want–just taxpayer money is not being used to purchase them. To equate this to ‘banning’ is definitely hyperbole.
Compare and contrast with books written by conservative authors that sellers refuse to sell. By not allowing them to be available, they have essentially done a ban.
Judy Blume, Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, Shakespeare have all been kicked out of school libraries at one point in time or another. Never prevented us from reading them since we could go to a bookstore and buy them.
The verbiage used makes it sound like these books are being burned in the town square.
But it’s all just hype.
