So Kroger is wanting to merge with another supermarket chain and there is some question as to whether this would be a monopoly in some areas. The Democrats aren’t on board (probably because Kroger is a southern US chain) and so they brought their case to the Republicans.
And then Sen. Cotton (R Arkansas) brought the hammer of doom on them.
Ya see, Kroger recently had to pay out $180,000 for religious discrimination because part of their ‘uniform’ is a rainbow heart (think gay pride). Two employees were fired for wanting to cover the heart on their uniforms up due to their religious beliefs. Kroger insists that the rainbow heart wasn’t connected to the gay community but their handbook says differently:
“Some people’s morality can be a barrier to accepting LGBTQ+ people,” the guide read. It went on to say that, though the company cannot decide an individual’s values for them, “a company has values that they expect employees to follow.”
Kroger doesn’t even want their staff to use the polite terms of ‘sir’ or ‘ma’am’ (as a former Southern Chick, I use these all of the time).
Sen. Cotton drew the CEO in and then brought the receipts as far as Kroger’s lack of accommodation for religious beliefs. The CEO tried to take the Fauci route and claim ignorance and got smacked for that as well.
Sen. Cotton is truly amazing. We need more Senators with his backbone. Watch the whole thing.
