Christiane Amanpour had the interview of the century lined up with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in New York.
After being 40 minutes late, he finally requested that she put on a headscarf for the interview. She declined since the interview was taking place in New York where there are no laws or rules regarding head coverings for women (if the interview was taking place in Iran, she would have put one on, she says).
So the interview didn’t happen. Kudos to Christiane for drawing a line and sticking to it.
Per the article, the request is probably due to the fact that Iran’s ‘morality police’ killed a woman for not wearing a piece of cloth on her head properly. There are riots and protests all over Iran.
I do want to add that despite this, Raisi was given permission to come into the United States to speak directly to the UN by Brandon’s government.
