I was watching the Formula One race in the Netherlands on Sunday morning. In Formula One, there is a veritable cast of thousands for each pit (which average about 3 seconds). The tire guys come out and for each tire there is a guy waiting to take the old tire, the guy working the gun, and the guy with the new tire which he puts on once the old one is out of the way and the gun guy does his magic and the car is back to the races.
Pretty simple, right?
Except when the new tire guy is standing there with no tire. So they had to wait for him to get it. And the gun guy had set down his gun which got run over by another driver.
Carlos Sainz of Ferrari went into the pit in third and came out eleventh.
One job. You would have thought that someone would have noticed that the guy who is supposed to be setting up and holding a tire, wasn’t.
I can’t embed the video, but it’s here: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/video.2022-dutch-grand-prix-ferrari-scramble-for-tyres-in-botched-sainz-pit-stop-branded-a-mess-by-team-boss-binotto.1743048052333006776.html
