In their zeal to keep the gay community from being stigmatized by the monkeypox outbreak making its way through the gay community, political health departments and the gay community itself are setting themselves up for failure.
The public at large is not seeing that the gay community is doing anything to stop the spread of this STD. Bathhouses are open, gay festivals are in full swing. Pride events were superspreaders. Gay men with monkeypox are indicating that they had sex with upwards of nine different men in short periods of time.
This virus is starting to trickle out to the larger community by either bisexual men or by men who are not being careful with kids in their care.
And because we see that no one is taking measures even close to what was put forth for a new type of cold, what is going to happen is that we are not going to want to be around gay people. They are clearly not being careful with their health how can they be trusted to not be spreading this?? Please note that there are exceptions but I’m talking about the community as a whole, not individuals.
As the virus continues to grow in the gay community and will inevitably spread into the population, then there will be stigmatizing. And it’s being caused by public health dancing around the issue and by the community itself.
