In Los Angeles county, the non-medical doctor head of public health wants mask mandates again despite there being any data that 1) shows that masking works–actually according to a new study, they are horrible or 2) that although there is an increase in positive tests, there is no increase in hospitalizations or deaths.
LA County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said, “The best way to manage the uncertainty and to reduce morbidity and mortality is to remain open to using both the sophisticated tools we now have our tests, our vaccines, our therapeutics and the nonpharmaceutical strategies, masking, ventilation, and distancing to layer on protections to respond to the conditions at hand.”
Additionally, the study upon which Ms Ferrer’s (and the CDC’s, by the way) actions towards masking in schools rest, were, in part, written by her daughter who is also not an MD. From the daughter’s (now scrubbed) bio:
Kaitlin went on to earn an M.A. in Communication Management from Emerson College in 2012, focusing on stakeholder management, public diplomacy, place branding, and health communication. She recently completed an M.B.A. at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business with a dual concentration in strategy & innovation and health sector management.
But there is finally some pushback in LA. At least one person on the LA Board of Supervisors is calling bullshit and has publicly stated she will not support any masking due to lack of evidence.
The LA County Business Association is begging for masking to not be re-mandated.
“This is not a debate about choosing between lives and livelihoods,” Tracy Hernandez, founding CEO of the Los Angeles County Business Federation, or BizFed, said in a statement.
“This is a discussion about educating and empowering Angelenos to make smart choices about protecting their health, our workers and the region’s collective ability to weather this latest wave of infections. We can do better than a heavy-handed mandate at this stage of pandemic recovery and endemic recalibration.”
Adam Corolla, who hit it on the mark when calling masking ‘crate training’ for kids, has thrown down the gauntlet:
Are you sheep going to mask up for round two or are you going act like Americans and fight back
With school boards around the country (in Kentucky for example) bringing back the masks, it’s time to stand up. I don’t give a rat’s half eaten ass if someone wants to wear one (although I do pity them and really feel sorry for their children) but I’m not going to even token comply on this again.
Fooled once, shame on you. Fooled twice, shame on me. The conspiracy of silence has been broken.
