In today’s episode of ‘cry me a river’ some dumbass in NYC, despite being in public health and despite knowing that monkeypox is in the wild in the gay community, decided to have sex with multiple men at NYC Gay Pride.
But it’s not his fault (whose fault is it?). It’s the government’s fault even though he admits he was aware of the issue. He thought he’d roll the dice and he lost. He goes into TMI detail on his symptoms.
And here’s the quote that I thought was ironically and unintendedly funny:
I’m pretty worried that we’re close to the point that this is going to be another endemic disease, especially among gay men, if we haven’t passed that point already. I’m worried we’ll be stuck with it forever.
Because here’s the thing. It doesn’t have to be endemic (and I do not think that word means what he thinks it means). It doesn’t have to spread to kids via their gay parent or other ‘close contact’ (not going there).
Monkeypox is spread by close contact with open lesions. If the gay community as a whole would stop having sex for a month, it would burn out because no one would have open lesions to continue transmission. But it is apparently too much to ask a bunch of adults to act like frickin’ adults. The whole world locked down to stop the spread of something (to no avail due to transmission method)–why can’t the gay community do it too (since it would work in this case)?
