Internet Movie Plane Database

Did not know this existed until yesterday.  Iron Eagle was on and there is a scene where a bunch of high school students have a race.  How these high school students have their own planes, no idea.

So a quick search led me here.

It’s actually pretty cool.

Now if they’d just have one for knives….

  1. Rich kids have Daddy's plane….What high school kid could afford the plane, much less the fuel, maintenance, insurance etc. Even in Assuming the kids could even afford the flying lessons. You can get a solo at 18, gain your license at 17, but the costs for that are high. Not sure what insurance would be for non owned insurance at 17 though. Even in 1986 that cost would be high.

  2. I had nearly turned age 19 when I stopped one or two lessons before I soloed. I didn't need another hobby. Plus the industry was lousy with VN pilots. So even if I had stayed with it, it would have been a rough going even to fly bank checks. (remember that? )I paid $8/hr for the CFI. The late model C-150 was $16 wet. My wage was $5.35. Apartment was $90. I didn't have a car. I rode my homemade speed machine bicycle or, infrequently, a Honda 90. This was in Fullerton, CA. Dad had recently separated so we moved to CA.
