Getting from the homeplace to Traverse City, Michigan takes about seven hours by car. It can take longer during construction season (which has started) and even longer once tourist season swings into full bloom.
By plane, at 188 knots (little over 200 mph) it takes an hour.
Traverse City is a nice tourist town–not as high dollar as Hilton Head, but not ‘K-Mart by the Sea’ like Myrtle Beach.
Good shopping, some excellent restaurants and, in the middle of summer, it’s going to be cooler if the wind is coming over Grand Traverse Bay.
Not worth the trip by car really for a weekend getaway, but doable by plane.
