It is an unfortunate truth that there is no good Chinese food in our corner of northern Indiana. Chicago has never been my favorite city so even though it’s relatively accessible, not willing to get carjacked for some fried rice.
Fortunately B has a plane so we flew out in the afternoon for some takeout from our favorite spots in downstate Illinois.
The FBO staff all know B pretty well and they are spot on amazing. Got out of the plane and into the FBO–they had the keys to a crew car waiting for us on the desk. Quick check to make sure all information was up to date and we were off.
First stop was a favorite pizza joint–we were planning on eating there, but they are in the middle of remodeling so no joy. She cooked our pizza most of the way done so we could finish it at home.
Second stop–burritos as big as your head. There was another guy getting several since he doesn’t get into the area very often either. So it’s not just our favorite burrito place.
Third stop–chinese food. Pork fried rice, crispy egg tofu (thought about their mapo tofu, but it sloshes), and some pork potstickers. This place is the real deal. There is an American menu and a Chinese menu. I’ve never had anything bad there.
Fortunately Jabba the Pritzker, with an assist from the CDC has killed the mask mandates in Illinois (except for Chicago school children) so that wasn’t an issue anywhere.
Got back to the plane, loaded up, and got home to feast out. It was an amazing way to spend an afternoon and thanks to B for making it happen!
Here’s some pics from the trip south. Really reminds you of the beauty that exists in this world.
