B over at Middle of the Right and I flew to Eagle Creek and had lunch this week. Takeoff was spot on (love to hear that gear come up) and we were off–that twin takes to the sky like a homesick angel. The day was lovely once we got on top of the clouds (fairly thin layer and Bs PIREP on the cloud tops was appreciated).
The food at Rick’s Boathouse, which is right across from the Eagle Creek airport is always wonderful as is the service. Highly recommend if you’re in the Indy area. Our waiter said they are getting a new menu soon–can’t wait to check it out. I devoured everything like a Tasmanian devil–crab stuffed mushrooms and a salmon eggs benedict. Bs pork tenderloin was piping hot and delicious. We walked back to the plane and headed for home.
On the way back, B took us up over three miles (pressurized plane is awesome) and the cloud cover was like a fluffy carpet beneath the plane. When we started descending, I noticed an interesting phenomenon–a circular rainbow. It turned out that it was around the plane and when we were right above the clouds, I could see the shadow of the plane right in the center. Unfortunately didn’t get a good picture of that. Don’t know what caused it, but it was pretty cool.
Here’s some pictures from the flight. You can see the rainbow in picture 2 right in front of the prop and I included a closer look in the 3rd.
