Well, that's worse than I thought. ASU could be in hot water

It’s looking like Arizona State University kicked Kyle Rittenhouse out the day before his verdict.  They ‘offered’ him a compassionate withdrawal in an email (sent him the form).  Which he didn’t complete and return.

Here’s the kicker–it’s pretty standard that university withdrawals have to be initiated by the student (or the student’s family if the student is incapacitated).  Even in the latter case, every attempt is made to get the student to weigh in.  That’s across most universities in the US.

There is nothing in ASU’s procedures that indicate that this type of withdrawal is something that the university initiates (procedures are here).

He was obviously okay in classes and they didn’t try for a Student Code of Conduct dismissal–if he’d been under that purview, they would have had a hearing–there would be a paper trail.

It seems he was admitted to their Nursing school and was taking preliminary classes.  Most of the time, Nursing school admissions are conditional based on maintaining above a certain GPA and the like.

Since they didn’t allow him to even finish his first semester, he couldn’t be dismissed on academic grounds either since he had no semester GPA.

I hope the ASU Registrar has his or her own paper trail from the administration ordering Kyle Rittenhouse to be taken out of classes and dismissed.  It’s a serious breach of ethics and professional standards.

And very likely grounds for another lawsuit.
