The lack of self-reflection is staggering

At the University of North Dakota, the VP for Student Affairs and Diversity was recently fired for discriminating against the now former campus Police Chief based on his political beliefs.

The Chief put up with her behavior for four years, which shows a lot of forbearance and patience considering her actions were impacting his ability to do his job.  He left for another job before she was fired.

Halgren (the VP) acknowledged that she changed the way she interacted with Plummer because of his political beliefs. At the meeting, she told administrators she “could not change the way she feels just to get along.”

There was a hearing and an appeal and she was subsequently fired.

But here’s the complete lack of self-reflection on the part of Halgren in an article from the local paper–I’ve added some bolding:

“Having been promoted from associate dean to dean and then from dean to vice president, I am proud of my 15-plus years of service to UND and stand by my record of treating people impartially. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served an institution that has given me so much as both a student and employee.”

She got fired for not treating people impartially. And admitting that she didn’t treat people impartially.  And she let her animus affect the campus as a whole by impacting individual students as well as a department’s ability to perform their duties in an informed manner.

And she had diversity in her title.  Guess it doesn’t include political diversity.

At least she got shitcanned–but they left her second-in-command in place who was probably just as culpable.
