Here in Indiana, we now have a new executive order. Part of it is that if a school district has a mask mandate, then their students don’t have to quarantine.
This is a big thing with parents who didn’t know from day to day if their kid would be sent home for ten days because a classmate tested positive.
So for school districts who are honestly trying to do what’s best for the kids and keeping masks optional, they are now going to be strong armed by parents who really do need some stability in their child’s schooling.
It is also completely contrary to any science or study in preventing virus positive tests–all it is is a sop to the feds and the Dept of Ed’s Civil Rights branch.
If I was looking at this completely dispassionately, I’d say ‘well played’ and give Holcomb an 8 on the Mafia scale of forcing compliance–he’s not mandating anything, but he’s putting the school districts in a place where they are going to have to.
But I’m not looking at it dispassionately.
I’m not sure why this has made me hit a hard wall, but it has.
