Ignoring the fact that they completely screwed the pooch and left a country to the Taliban, the Biden administration immediately holds out a hand to the rebranded Afghanistan in the hopes that the new government, which is reportedly going from door-to-door looking for folks who cooperated with the US as well as to gather up any firearms, will have an inclusive government that includes women.
Seriously WTF?
In the meantime, women in Afghanistan are buying up burkas the way I buy toilet paper. They know what the Taliban is and how they treat women. A lot of the younger ones are fighting it–they don’t want to become faceless again, but the Biden admin’s fuckup isn’t leaving them with a lot of options.
ETA: Yeah. It’s started already. A woman was shot to death for not wearing a burka. They’d said that hijab was enough (just a scarf covering the head and hair), but apparently not-so-much.
