I’m going to go out on a limb and call yesterday the perfect day. Everyone’s idea of perfect will differ, but dang it was nice.
Started with a two mile walk on the beach. Lake Michigan was beautiful, the sky was blue. It was just chilly enough that the walk was comfortable in a light jacket. Not a lot of people, but great company and exercise.
Someone had a bit of whimsy by putting a feather in a rock on the beach. We just happened to see it.
Then we found a little roadside truck that had pies. They were out of pecan, but I had a peanut butter whoopie pie and B had a slice of raspberry that worked quite nicely.
Next–homemade root beer from a locally famous drive-in called Carlson’s in Michigan City.
The last part of this little road trip ended at Pa’s Chicken Coupe in Westville, IN (yes that’s the right spelling). Old school diner at the back of a now defunct truckstop. Awesome. Pressure broasted chicken. Crispy without breading and all of the other tricks the chains use.
Back to the house for a food-coma nap, the race, leftover chicken for dinner and then bed.
An amazingly wonderful day and really refreshing.
