Academia and the China connection

Fourteen academics have been arrested for ties to China in 2020.  They worked for Harvard, Penn State, University of Arkansas and others.  They lied, stole, committed fraud.  Their schools may have known or suspected and turned a blind eye because they get a boat-ton of money from China.

At this link, there is a list of Confucius Institutes that were still operating in April 2020.  There were 86 of them still in operation at that time.  There are some interesting ‘partners’ in there:  Portland State University, Chicago Public Schools, George Washington University, University of Washington/Seattle Public Schools.

They are housed on campuses ranging from large publics (Michigan State, University of Kentucky for example) to smaller privates (Bryant University, Valparaiso University).

As a note, as of September 7, 2020 the number of Institutes is now 67.

Definitely a step in the right direction.

The DoD not funding universities with CIs took out about 35 in 2019 and 2020 due to security risks associated with the Institutes and DoD contracts.  But really all of them, and the power they hold over their ‘partners’, especially the private institutions who are all hurting for money, especially in the Covid time, means that they are still a conduit for Chinese propaganda.  DoD contracts or no, they are all security risks and should all be shut down.
