What the fuck? Illiterate Congressman screws the metaphorical pooch

This doesn’t bode well for the 117th Congress.  A representative who was also a pastor for 37 years completely decided to jump the shark and created his own word salad.

Rep Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) not only decided go the whole enchilada and invoke Brahma, a monotheistic G-d, and then bat cleanup with anyone else known as a ‘god’ in any other religion.  He completely showed his ass* by ending this invocation with A-Men and A-Women.

“We ask it in the name of the monotheistic God, Brahma, and ‘god’ known by many names by many different faiths. Amen and awoman.”

What he did is show that one can be a pastor for 37 years and not know anything the meaning of his prayers.

He’s equating apples, oranges, and a whole fruit basket with his second to last sentence.  None of these things are like the others.  And he should know that.  His ‘god’ known by many names and many faiths includes a whole lot of deities that are inimical to our way of life.  Like Cthulhu.  But invoking that one might account for Nancy Pelosi.

Amen is not a gendered term.  Its etymology is from Hebrew then transliterated into Greek, Latin, and then late English. It means Certainty, Truth, Verily, or ‘It is so’ or ‘So be it’.  It does not mean ‘A man’ or ‘A group of men’.

To give credit where it’s due, he was pretty good and on target up until his last couple of sentences.  Sounded like a real pastor (except for the priestly presence thing in the middle).

*Showing one’s ass is a Southern phase whose equivalent is that one is acting like a fool.
