Yep, Columbus Day. The way I remember being taught in school is that Queen Isabella of Spain funded Christopher Columbus’ expedition to find a new route to the Indies. Instead, he found the New World of the Americas and established trade routes to the North American continent.

The indigenous peoples were already here (hence the ‘indigenous’ part) so trying to mask Columbus’ discoveries by trying to rename this day is completely disingenuous.

That crazy Italian with his three ships, the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria, helped to shape the world as it is now.

Let’s not forget that.
