Schadenfreude, I has it…

In Mamdani’s NYC, islamic calls to prayer ring out in Brooklyn, state-run grocery stores are going to require ID, but voting doesn’t, and socialism is rampant.

The latest thing is to increase taxes on second homes, pricey ones, in the city. Something called ‘pied-à-terre’ residences (because socialism always sounds better in French).

One professor was firmly behind this latest push to get the rich to move out of New York altogether until one of his pied-à-terre homes was on the list, address and all.

“I came out in favor of this tax. He’s taken a legitimate source of tax revenue and is turning it into a wanted poster. And the question I would have is, other than trying to identify and imply these people have done something wrong, and then 18 months after a health care CEO was executed in the streets, and then published the list, what is the upside here? Why is he doing this?”

Of course, the rest of us, having read our history books, knew this was going to happen:

It never fails to amaze me how the leftists always figure they are going to be the pig, rather than one of the other farm animals. So when they get hoist on their own petards and their radical ideology bites them on the ass, I have to laugh. They are getting what they voted for, they just never thought it would affect them.

    The list of properties that Mamdani published last week Doxxes every name on that list as a “rich guy” That puts a target of opportunity on every address on the list because those addresses have now been identified as “rich people”.

    No, Nemo, it puts those addresses on a list of rich people homes that have, perhaps, no one living in them for weeks on end.

    After I left my suburban home, as US Army draftee, I was welcomed to ‘the real world.’ GI Buddies from all across the USA were dumped together and put through Basic Training.
    But the non-Army interchange of life experiences, skills, and beliefs was at least as equal to the military skills I acquired.
    I can identify with Semper Fi. And do.

    Seems that leftist utopian visions put into practice are really good at making sure that everyone is equally miserable and desperate, but not so good at making sure that anyone can be equally successful and prosperous. Power and oppression turn into more than leftist accusations.

    So the list shows the addresses of HOME that NO ONE lives in? Those HOMES are just there – no one home – easy pickings for the astute!

    Bennie – I would not assume 2nd properties are unoccupied. They could be rentals (legal or off-the-book), they could be used for family (i.e. my worthless kid lives there for free), or they could be temporary. The last is something I’ve seen, where someone and their family live off in the countryside, but 4 days a week he has to work in the city. Rather than commute several hours each day, he has a second smaller residence in the city that he stays in 4 nights a week while working. Primary residence and secondary doesn’t mean the secondary is unoccupied. But yeah, publishing that list is painting targets.
