And this one of the few who got caught

A now-former police officer in California has pled guilty to mis-using departmental resources to monitor, harass, and stalk a plethora of people, including (get this) his wife, ex-girlfriend, mistress, and many more. Despite everything he did, he was only sentenced to ‘informal probation’ (whatever the hell that is), for a couple of misdemeanors, and some monitoring, along with a year long ‘domestic violence program’.

Between June and December of 2023, Josett was accused of using the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) database to make 13 inquiries on people and vehicles not related to his job, including his mistress, someone she dated and his own wife, prosecutors said.

He also used the police department’s FLOCK license plate reader system to find his mistress’ car and the vehicles of her romantic interests with the intent to follow them, court documents said.

He also used the FLOCK system to track his ex-mistresses’ new boyfriend.

I would highly recommend watching the whole video below. There’s several others as well.

Per the article, when the dude was an officer, he had unfettered access to FLOCK. FLOCK is nationwide. If his ex-mistress had moved out of state, it would not have changed him being able to track and find her or her boyfriend.

There is no security, there are no audits. And these cameras are everywhere. And unfortunately, folks like the above former officer are caught too rarely.

As a note, Ring cameras are increasingly as problematic. There are CEOs and other Ring employees using the cameras as their own personal streaming service. Creepily enough, they are watching children learning gymnastics and are accessing other ‘personal’ spaces that, once their cameras are in place, are no longer personal. More here:

  1. I once lived in a place where a Sherriff used The Department of Homeland Security system to look up girls he found attractive. Punishment? Slap on the hand.

Law is for thee, not for me.
