The State of New York has once again decided that nuns are a target of choice. There is a hospice care facility run by nuns that has been in place for over a century caring for the dying. They take no state money.

“We are consecrated religious Sisters and have one mission,” Mother Marie Edward, O.P., told Fox News Digital in a statement. “It is to provide comfort and skilled care to persons dying of cancer who cannot afford nursing care. We do not take insurance or government funds or money from our patients or families. The care is totally free.”

“We are supported by the goodness of our benefactors,” she continued. “We do this without discriminating on the basis of race, religion, or sex. We do it because Jesus taught us that, when the least among us are sick, we should care for them, as if they were Christ himself.”

But because liberals have to 1) destroy anything that is good; and 2) bow to their own religion of illness and ugliness, the nuns might lose their licensing. Why?

Signed into law on Nov. 30, 2023, the “Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, and people living with HIV long-term care facility residents’ bill of rights” bans long-term care facilities and staff “from discriminating against any resident on the basis of a resident’s actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or HIV status,” according to a press release from Hochul’s office.

Bear in mind that these nuns do not discriminate. They do, however, acknowledge the fact that there are two sexes, as shown by chromosomes and God’s will and segregate their patients accordingly.

But these are not your ordinary nuns. They filed suit against the state. Because they have a mission. As an aside, they also have had ZERO complaints about their care and practices.

To my mind, what the state did is why the Founding Fathers put the following in the First Amendment “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.

Because the State has de facto created and established a religion that they are forcing on others. I believe the Founding Fathers loved freedom so much that using government to force people to bow to a certain belief was anathema to them.
