Let’s turn that frown upside down at the TSA

The Acting Deputy Director of the TSA is now saying that they might have to ‘shut down’ smaller airports due to the high school educated (maybe) ‘agents’ (pretty glorified term for a bunch of folks looking into a scanner or glancing at IDs) calling out.

Bear in mind that last Friday was the first paycheck missed by these miscreants. So they’ve felt the pain for a total of four days.

The press is screaming about how 300 of them have quit. Out of an estimated 42,000 front line employees (by my math, that’s 0.71%).

I think I have a better way to deal with the problem. How about we just fire them? We’re spending billions on kabuki theater at our airports. Most of the time, the TSA is a jobs program anyway.

Bring in the private security companies and maybe, if the fired idiots can actually meet a standard, they can get re-hired. But I doubt many of them could.

  1. Are you at all related to Ronald Wilson Reagan? 😉

He took care of a similar situation in a similar manner.

  2. And Reagan’s method worked. Why we would ever allow a union to blackmail the government is beyond me.

  3. My limited experience certainly varies. Back in the 90’s when I was traveling some, I contrasted the agents in Kansas City who were friendly and helpful, and those in Palm Beach, the same, with those in Atlanta (my home town) who were fat and surly. Three different “cultural” groups.

  4. TSA was just another .gov make work program.

Did I feel safer because TSA was on duty?
    Never!

  5. Easy fix, get rid of those that created the ‘need’ for TSA in the first place

  6. The fundamental flaw with TSA is that it is deliberately designed to treat everyone with equal suspicion so as not to offend anyone. If the TSA were allowed to focus on suspicious behavior (yes you would need a better class of employees) the process could be streamlined and still be as effective as it is now. The obvious flaw with my idea is that the courts would have to allow profiling.

Used to be a lot simpler! My FIRST flight back in 1998 was amazing! I went to the check in counter and put my suitcase on the shelf and the Agent began the SECURITY CHECK! She asked “Is there anything dangerous in your suitcase”? I said “No ma’am” (Southern Respect). Then she asked “Did anyone put anything in your luggage without your knowledge”? What? I was “trapped”! How would I answer that honestly? I thought long and hard (Southern for a few seconds) and said “No ma’am” (once again Southern Respect)! Then she gave me my boarding pass and directions to the gate! It used to be so nice to see people coming through the door and their loved ones rushing to greet them! We lost all of this because of a few muslim lunatics!

  8. Poor tax leaches. They are so highly trained, and so essential. How did we ever make it before their department was created? The private sector, without its guarantees of success must seem terribly frightening after missing a few days’ pay. The Leftists make this a “news” story- a human interest piece to rile the bleeding heart types who then seek out vengeance upon the cause of such severe suffering at…NOT the hands of the obstructionist Democrats, but those wascally Republicans who made them hold the budget hostage…

  9. The real question about the TSA is: How many terrorist plane bombers have they identified and caught vs how many laptops, phones, camera’s, jewelry and other property has been stolen by the checked bag inspectors? I happen to know someone that had their lap top stolen from their checked bag.

Then there’s the let’s make government jobs for minorities with good pay, benefits and gold plated retirement for doing mostly nothing all day aspect.
