A swing and a miss in Tennessee on drivers licenses

Tennessee has a bill working through its state legislature to require that the drivers license exam only be given in English.

Aside from the fact that other languages never should have been a thing (right now Tennessee has exams in English, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Korean seriously, WTF on the last two???), it’s a big ol whoop-dee-doo because people can still get restricted licenses if they don’t pass.

Here’s WBIR out of Knoxville:

A bill that would require Tennessee’s driver’s license written exam to be offered only in English is advancing in the state legislature.

Lawmakers passed an amendment to the proposal on Tuesday that would allow drivers who do not pass the written test to receive a restricted license for 18 months instead of one year.

The amendment expanded the places drivers with a restricted license would be allowed to travel to including work, daycare, school, medical appointments and places of worship.

So they can still pretty much legally drive anywhere, all they have to do is lie about their destination. And preventable accidents will still happen because you’ve got a bunch of folks on the road who DIDN’T PASS THE FREAKIN’ TEST.

The stupid continues to burn.

    Tennessee’s RINO-majority Legislature has perfected the “Ooh! You almost got it! Re-elect me and we’ll get ‘er done next year for SURE!” script.
    You oughta see ’em on Second Amendment legislation. I’ve seen more good and necessary legislation get killed in committee (or thoroughly mangled) over the years because the chickenshits are terrified of getting pinned down on a recorded floor vote on anything controversial.

    crazyeighter: that’s RINO SUPER majority and has been for over a decade.

    2A: TN gov’t, yeah we’ve got unConstitutional laws and we’re gonna pass another that forbids you contesting them.

    We need to quit trying to stop the Bills and Laws and stop the traitors that pass them because they’ll just keep doing it otherwise. PSA: voting hasn’t worked. Disclaimer: this is not legal or revolutionary advice.

    Japanese and Korean….maybe something to do with the Nissan plant in Smyrna and the suppliers who supply the Hyundai plant just over the state line in Alaama

    ERJ, there are also the Hankook Tire and LG facilities in Clarksville, and there are associated Korean plants scattered around the state.

    Frankly, the Tn legislature isn’t all that bad. OK, sometimes they’re idiots. But mostly not. Try living in Mn or Wi (just to pick a couple) sometime.

      Umm, you’re talking about the ones trying to keep carrying a gun/weapon “with the intent to go armed” law? That a 3 judge court ruled unconstitutional (US and TN). They’re just as bad, just sneakier about it.

    So what happens in 18 months? Get a new test and ANOTHER 18 months?? You either DO or you DON’T! I don’t think I would try to drive in another Nation until I passed their test – which probably would require you to read and write THEIR language!
