Europe and California are all now fully reaping the results of their energy policies and reliance on windmills and solar panels instead of good plentiful oil and natural gas. And let’s just say it sucks to be them.
Because not only is the war in Iran sending oil prices skyrocketing, Putin is putting on some flex since he now has Europe by the short hairs.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Russia could stop selling natural gas to Europe, Reuters reported. New markets are opening up in Asia as a result of the hostilities in Asia, and with Europe being such an unreliable partner as a result of its “misguided policies,” it might be more profitable to supply these new markets, Putin explained.
He says he was just ‘thinking out loud’, but everyone with half a brain knows that he was putting Europe on notice.
The main problem is that Europe pulled attitude about oil and gas because they believed academics (one of the classic blunders) when governments were told that bringing wind and solar on board would be just hunky-dory. Additionally they started shutting down the only truly greenhouse-gas free method of energy production–nuclear.
For years, academics assumed the energy transition would be quick and easy, and so investments in oil and gas would become stranded assets, they argued. European policymakers bought into the hype, and only Norway has any significant oil and gas production.
Back in the US, California’s policies have now made them a security risk to the rest of the country due to their many military bases and ports.
…California pursued very similar policies as those in Europe. After years of anti-fossil fuel policies, the state is now importing more oil and distilled petroleum products than ever before.
The war in Iran is straining global petroleum supplies, and that will lift California’s high fuel costs even higher. The state is home to three major container ports, key military bases, and almost 15% of the U.S. GDP, meaning its energy problems have become a matter of national concern.
“California is not just an energy basket case, it’s also evolved now into a national security risk for the United States,” David Blackmon, an analyst with more than 40 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and author of the “Energy Absurdities,” Substack told Just the News.
One thing that this war is doing is underlining the cracks in the security of Europe as well as the US when it comes to not having a steady, internal supply of fuel. It’s also showing how relying on academia, with its biases, can possibly bring down countries due to adherence to a flawed ideology.
