Too windy for fishing so I’m burning CDs so we have music when we go offshore. The problem is finding writeable CDs. I’m too cheap for satellite radio.

If “MP3 player” is generic for “digital music player” then I agree with P2.
I would buy the player and look to see what formats it supports with an eye towards FLAC (or ALAC If you’re in the Apple ecosystem).
When you “rip” your CDs, rip to FLAC/ALAC. MP3 has lower quality audio than the other two.
Another advantage is that if the boat sinks, you don’t lose your music collection.

I still have and use cassettes, vinyl, CDs and blue ray. Still have VHS tapes but nothing to play them on. Although playing music from my phone is quite handy especially with Bluetooth headphones and speakers.

The punchline of a joke I learned in third grade, 1959, was “people who live in grass huts shouldn’t stow thrones”.
