Too windy for fishing so I’m burning CDs so we have music when we go offshore. The problem is finding writeable CDs. I’m too cheap for satellite radio.

Bob… For the love of all that’s holy, man….get an MP3 player at least and drop your soundtrack into a thumbdrive. It’s the 21st century after all. And, bonus feature, there’s more room for beer!

If “MP3 player” is generic for “digital music player” then I agree with P2.
I would buy the player and look to see what formats it supports with an eye towards FLAC (or ALAC If you’re in the Apple ecosystem).
When you “rip” your CDs, rip to FLAC/ALAC. MP3 has lower quality audio than the other two.
Another advantage is that if the boat sinks, you don’t lose your music collection.
