I wonder if Fahrenheit 451 was on the list?

In Ontario, a high school library has gotten rid of over half its books–10,000 of them. All in the name of inclusion.

Among the purged books were works that challenge power, authority and ideology, including George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm, Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. Literary classics such as HamletMacbeth and To Kill a Mockingbird were also removed, along with Wuthering Heights and multiple Harry Potter novels.

I’m surprised (not really) that the liberals are not screaming about book banning since taking books that contain pornographic material out of grade school classrooms caused wailing and gnashing of teeth.

But of course books that actually enrich the mind and maybe cause some critical thinking should, to their minds, be condemned to the trash bin.

“You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.” – Ray Bradbury

Other books in the cull included Canadian history. Someone finally blew the whistle, but the books are still gone. I somehow doubt they’ll find the budget to replace them….

  1. Well…. I wonder how many of the students can actually _read_ in the first place at this juncture?

  2. I was working as a janitor at the local H.S. when they jettisoned a load of books , boxes upon boxes of books that were all of the sudden deemed surplus. I asked my supervisor if I could grab some he said take all you want. so my book collection doubled (or more) overnight. I grabbed a truckload, lots of history, and books about different weapons systems , it was great for a bookworm like me !

  3. First amendment opponents, second amendment opponents….opponents of the bill of rights in general. What these jackasses apparently fail to understand is that these rights and protections exist to limit government, and that EVERYONE benefits from their application. Totalitarianism is evil no matter who the proprietor of it, because is is the enemy of free will. It is hard to nail down a description of the type of people who have tendencies toward this kind of behavior, but it is safe to say that ; they have never really been anywhere, done anything of any substance, or been in a fistfight, or gotten a spanking.

  8. …this is one of the reasons people like Mark Carney and Justine Turdeau get elected Prime Minister and their Protégés will continue to be elected. I know those two came before this incident, however I suspect the reason all of those books were purged is because no one has checked them out in years. It’s been happening at my local library over the past decade. That’s because English and History teachers aren’t teaching people to read books that make them think.

My 8th grade history teacher told us about 1984 and gave us extra credit for reading it. The year was 1959.
