To silence the gas pump ads, press the second button from the top on the right hand side of the screen. This has worked on every pump I have tried. YMMV, of course.
To speak the truth, this technique showed up on some web site I visited a year ago (or so). I have shared this at many gas pumps with folks that have been pumping gas and got a smile each time. It may be that other buttons work as well, but I might start WW3 by mistake, so I have never tried it.
