Veteran’s Day

Thank you to US Veterans who have served.  You have my deepest gratitude.

And in Remembrance on Armistice Day…

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month….

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies

  1. I have always been a bit of a cynic, but while I am ever grateful for those willing to serve, this date reminds that politicians view active and veteran service members as grist to the mill.

The Great War was a silly exercise in working out colonial and tribal European tensions, to which we should have never been a party. Even the end, delivered by an Armistice that was delayed by 5 or 6 hours so they could have their 11 AM, 11th day, 11th month soundbite, cost another 5,000 lives.

  3. Texas Dan–While I understand your point, please, no pontificating on my post like this. It’s not useful and pisses me off.

Nemo–Thank you for your service as well as thanks to your fellow veterans.

  5. We owe much to those whose oath and service committed them to passing away alone in a foreign land. Much more than most every stop to contemplate.
