Another losing proposition

Women’s baseball. Yep. A new league starting next year. Probably by people who watched ‘A League of their Own’ once too often.

One wonders if it’s going to be funded by the MLB the way that the WNBA is underwritten by the NBA. Because there’s no way it’s going to survive on its own. Didn’t the first time, doubt it will this time.

The WPBL held tryouts in Washington, D.C. back in August for over 600 female athletes. That was the largest female baseball tryout since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League held its tryouts in the 1940s. You may remember these from the 1992 film A League of Their Own.

The WPBL Draft is set for “later this year.”

Good grief.

    A league of their own, indeed. And most of the players will probably bear a resemblance to Rosie O’Donnell, or present day Madonna (not the young, kind of hot, even if she was really just average one). More envy driven girl bossing™ because they just have to show they can do anything men can, even when it isn’t useful to do so. Odds of success are on par with those of the WNBA.

    If the women’s league cant (and it won’t) survive without subsidies, then it deserves to die.

    As it it though, I’m gonna buy dildo futures now so when they rain down on the paying field(s) I can make bank.

      The league should adopt a bat design that looks like a giant green dildo. May as well go for the the laughs, since not much else will draw attention to this failure in the making. It’ll just be another case of unfeminine lesbians putting on a show nobody asked for, ala the WNBA.

    I wonder if there’s anyone that would be interested in watching MEN play SOFTBALL on a professional level?

    Hey, you never know, right?

    As to the ladies playing Baseball? Have at it. Anyone wants to watch, by all means. Best of luck and I sincerely mean that.

    However, in the end, it should stand fully on it’s own as anything supportable as an “industry”.

    BRD–Agreed.

    Nemo–She’s the one I referenced yesterday. Excellent writer and spot on.

    B–Excellent forethought–can’t use green though since that the WNBA dildo color. I betting that they barely get through one season, if this farce actually gets off the ground.

    BRD–I wonder if we’ll see wigs flying off too… but the bats would have to be a different color.

    Veeshir–With the way the pendulum is swinging, it might be a better proposition.

    boneman–I’ve seen men playing softball and it was awesome. But yes, like any other industry, if it doesn’t stand on its own, it should fail instead of being propped up.

    Phil B–The end of that video was hilarious! We do need to note that it is not safe for work….

    NFO–Because they are still trying to push the agenda, just like with trans.

    B–Those beach volleyball outfits keep getting smaller every year but I doubt the baseball girls will be as fit. Topless might work for a little bit, especially when there’s a lot of base runs.

    Veeshir–The trans people want a league. Give them this one.

    Men’s fastpitch softball was YUGE in Ye Olden Days. The Clearwater Bombers were the NY Yankees of their day. Another team that used to tour the country was called The King and His Court. “The King” was the pitcher and he was so bad-ass, he only had a couple of guys on the field, besides his catcher. He’d even back up and pitch from second base, just for shits and giggles.

    Sigh… I miss being young enough to play ball…

    This female baseball league will flash and die out like any other “this can’t miss” scheme.

      B.C.–I saw a game of men’s fastpitch softball that was as exciting as baseball game. The shortest guy there was 6’2″ and they literally powered those softballs out of the park. But yes, the female league will die on the vine.

        Back the daze of my yute, I played both fastpitch and slow pitch softball on three continents during my time in the USAF. Those were some of the best times, and getting paid to travel the world, play sports, and participate in the killing of Jihadis was a bonus. 😎
