Billing issues for puberty blockers

Looks like at least three hospitals have been using bogus billing codes to get insurance companies to pay for puberty blockers for children: Boston Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospitals of both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

BCH had an interesting increase in a diagnosis of ‘precocious puberty’ from 2020-2023.

There is “no clear explanation for why BCH would go from diagnosing almost no 11-year-olds with CPP for the years 2017-19 to diagnosing 50 11-year-old patients with CPP in 2022,” the government argued. 

Puberty blocking drugs, which can cost thousands of dollars, are approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for the the treatment of precocious puberty but not for the treatment of gender dysphoria.

The two children’s hospitals in Pennsylvania have indictments for the same scam.

The DOJ filing alleges that some hospitals, including UPMC and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), may have misrepresented children’s diagnoses to secure insurance coverage for puberty blockers and hormone therapies — drugs often prescribed off-label for gender transition in minors.

Though the DOJ notes that more direct evidence pertains to CHOP, investigators confirmed they are aware of concerning practices at UPMC as well. “There are allegations and evidence that raise concern that federal health care offenses may be occurring,” the filing states.

The DOJ’s broader investigation — part of President Donald Trump’s intensified review of transgender-related services for minors — is examining potential violations that include false statements and misuse of federal funds.

UPMC Quietly Ends Key Services Amid Scrutiny

UPMC has already discontinued certain gender-affirming services, including puberty blockers and hormone therapies for minors, citing the potential for prosecution according to the report. The hospital’s website currently states that gender-affirming surgeries are only provided to individuals aged 19 and older.

There are other hospitals that are likely on the line as well. Why they always try to find workarounds to perpetuate this ideology is baffling. It’s an almost religious fervor where they are willing to lie, cheat, and steal and lose everything for it.

    I am so often truly left wondering what really motivates these people?

    It is utterly baffling this pursuit of pernicious perfidy. Children should be able to trust the adults in their lives to have their BEST INTERESTS prioritize their actions.

    This is so utterly contrary to all of that that the only conclusion I can draw is that it is utterly evil. And that you can’t fix. You can only eliminate it.

      I’ll concur fully. It is evil exhibiting as insanity and attention seeking. Moreso on the part of the mothers than the children, I suspect. That said, there are many troubled children in our society such as it is now, who are suffering issues of poor self confidence and social anxiety from the misery of not fitting in and being bullied. These vulnerabilities are preyed on by damnable perverts and others pushing an agenda. The hospitals and doctors, meanwhile, are mostly whores looking for a big payday.

      All for that, together with the constant onslaught of this depravity being marketed to them by the schools and media, gives them the false idea that they can change themselves, and perhaps gain greater acceptance (which is an especially cruel lie, as being a tranny makes one a true freak who will be universally reviled). Once the seed is planted in their minds, all it takes is a parent (almost always the mother) to run with the ball in order to shower herself with the attention gleaned from the public exhibition of her virtuous wokeness.

      This is primarily a matter of poor parenting and bad schools, dysfunctions that go hand in hand with so many things that are ruining our society. Parents are accepting – even if only grudgingly – of the shit product served up by public education. Instead of
      demanding its end, they (at most) will complain to school boards about these issues (who aren’t listening to them regardless), and yet will continue to allow their children to be corrupted and irreparably harmed by this system.

      The parents need to get mad as hell and force change. Yes, at this stage, that is going to require violence to dislodge all of the entrenched leftists who have made education one of their most profitable and effective institutions for subversion of the culture. Home schooling is an alternative for some, but many parents simply don’t have the discipline and wherewithall to do that to any decent outcome. As long as public education as it presently exists is allowed to go on, succeeding generations of children will be ruined by it. Of course, the parents who are fully on board with this abomination simply need to be rooted out and given the ultimate punishment for their willing service to evil.

    THey should eb charges with fraud…not only the individual who did the billing, but anyone in his/her line of supervision, up to and including the directors.

    When they do jail time and are subject to fines and the hospital is forced to repay the insurance AND pay massive fines, this sort of shit will stop immediately.

    Whoever established the diagnosis that resulted in the “bogus code” should be charged and if not stripped of his license at least suspend and FINE!! These leftists won’t stop until it affects them personally!

    Specific physicians made that diagnosis. IF it is a lie, they should be prosecuted criminally for fraud. Along with the hospital CEO, CFO. Nurses, billing clerks, residents, all the rest – let them skate. Get the doc and the two senior admins.

    boneman–Totally agree. It’s so evil and they are willing to commit fraud to facilitate it.

    BRD–That’s why it should be referred to as ‘government education’ not public education.

    B.C.–That went by the wayside a long time ago. And yep.

    B–Agreed. Everyone involved should be held accountable. They are all supposed to be checks on each other for billing. If they aren’t doing that part of the job, there should be consequences.

    doc–Perhaps. I can see the logic in cutting the head off the snake and hope it’s not a hydra.
